The Site

Bolsón Digital intends to be my virtual place-holder of all things digital. Things worth sharing with friends, family, and may be even you. Still in the ‘physical boxes’ and begging to come out are projects past and present, a portfolio of artifacts, electronic & computer music (my first love), some scientific bubbling and, pervasive throughout, ‘geek stuff’ with potential to improve life. Or not.

The Person

I’m Angelo, Argentine by birth (marplatense), but living in Florida by choice.

Most days you’ll find me concocting data models, reverse-engineering databases and helping my boss manage enterprise meta-data in state government; most nights I have fun hacking computing devices, or playing with (and being educated by) my two unbelievably competitive young daughters.

When I listen to music I go for whatever ‘moves me’. From experimental to Classical to Jazz to piano to symphonic to Baroque to Rock to Tango to World to ambient, to ANY thing, really. It’s got to appeal to the numinous element in me. Otherwise, it bores me, it’s background sound, elevator music, white noise. Then again, ‘designed’ noise can be construed as music.

Old favorites of mine are Mr. Beethoven, Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, Ginastera, Miles Davis, Phillip Glass, Piazzolla, Steve Reich, Chick Corea, Coldplay, U2, ELP, Peter Gabriel, Yes, Soda Stereo, The Doors, Keith Jarrett, The Beatles,  Spinetta, Charly García, and many, many more. As of 2011 my iTunes library weighs over 1 TB.

Don't believe everything you think

After graduating from Berklee College in Boston I spent a few years playing keyboards with several bands at various functions and dinner parties in the Boston area. I admit to having asked to be compensated some ridiculous amounts of cash. It worked for a while, but eventually all good things do come to an end, and in the mid-90′s I enrolled at University of Miami to pursue a Master’s in electronic and computer music composition. My thesis was on interactive music and media.

Over time I took some intensive courses in C, Visual Basic, and Java. Later I developed some Cold Fusion and Oracle PL/SQL applications for my employer, and after 2 years of the required coursework I got a Master of Science degree in Computer Information Systems.

In what seemed like a blink of an eye, I had moved irreversibly from the ethos on to the dark side, or a place that Dean Sam Yarger labeled as the big black-hole of technology-spending.

A decade later, it still feels as having just turned 42 26. My European shoe-size is still 41.5, and I learned to say in French:

“Nous vivions dans un monde merveilleux,
mais cet idiot l’a detruit.”

or:

“What a f…… beautiful World We live in,
but that mediocre idiot from Texas had to screW it up”

Now, on most weekends you’ll find me mountain-biking, sun-bathing, laying on the white dunes of the Florida Gulf coast. Alternatively, you can find me churrasqueando beef on my backyard grill, drinking generous amounts of Malbec, listening to various genres of art music, playing Wii games or watching movies with my family. And if I they are out, reading the prose of Borges, writing code, or simply doing a little of what Italians describe as il bello del non fare niente.

From an early age it appeared to many I had been destined for greatness in life; however, even destiny can be mistaken. Instead, life finds me every morning re-filling myself with orange juice and coffee, taking the kids to school, plugging an iPhone into an iMIV Volvo adapter, and slowly driving my way through suburbia, to promote and protect the health and safety of all people in Florida through the delivery of quality public health services and the promotion of health care standards enabled by the strategic implementation of bleeding-edge Information Technologies work.

I love your sense of humor!!

Me gusta pensar que los que viven bien, pasan desapercibidos…

It’s been said before that the real funny one in our family is my wife. One should start first defining good living. A possible next step would be to try and find purpose in life. With any luck, one could try achieving that purpose while having fun (good living). It’s possible. Some have done it. I’m still trying…

Well, as cheesy as it may sound, being a father to “two unbelievably competitive young daughters” may seem to them as a feat of greatness because only you (and later on them) do/will understand the challenges presented daily. This kind of feels like a blog… and it’s certainly very enjoyable to read. I agree with Pri, your sense of humor is awesome!

“Il bello del non fare niente” Doing nothing is very appealing sometimes…

Yes Luchi, time is the great ‘equalizer’. The real funny one in my family is my dear wife. She is naturally, spontaneously funny.

My sense of humor is in part the product of time, experience, and observation. One of the few things we humans have, that may come in short supply to other primates, is irony, although some chimps come close!

It could be said that irony and poetry serve us well and make life a bit less boring…

Of course, irony, poetry and doing nothing complement each other, as oil and vinegar do with the ingredients of a green salad. Would you agree?

You are so lucky to have a funny wife, you know…
